Meta Overlayfsx, displayed as OverlayFS Enhanced in the manager, is a KernelSU metamodule maintained by AshBorn (RipperHybrid). This fork of the original Meta OverlayFS stores module contents in an ext4 image and provides a WebUI for managing modules, inspecting mounts, and identifying file conflicts.
Module storage and mount inspection
Manage overlay contents and inspect the mount state reported by the kernel.
Image-based module storage
Module metadata and disable flags remain in /data/adb/modules, while contents are stored in a mounted ext4 image. The installer creates a sparse image with a logical size of 2 GB or reuses the existing image during an update.
Kernel mount inspector
The inspector reads /proc/mounts to report active overlay chains and show which modules supply or shadow conflicting files. Reports are available in a readable tree or structured JSON format.
Installation
- Use KernelSU Manager on an ARM64 or x86_64 device. The installer rejects other architectures, and the upstream instructions document KernelSU rather than Magisk or APatch.
- Install the release ZIP through KernelSU Manager.
- During the first installation, choose whether to migrate existing and pending modules: Volume Up accepts and Volume Down skips.
- Reboot to apply the changes.
Using the WebUI and inspector
Open KernelSU Manager, select the Modules tab, find OverlayFS Enhanced, and open its WebUI. The dashboard shows storage and mount status; the module manager provides search, enable/disable, uninstall, and per-file conflict details. The tools page includes a log viewer and storage optimization.
For a command-line report, run /data/adb/modules/meta-overlayfsx/overlayfsx inspect in a root shell. Append -r for JSON output.
The Optimize Storage action reclaims space from deleted content using hole punching. The README notes that a reboot is needed before size changes appear in file managers.
Removal and support
The v1.3.4 removal script disables affected modules rather than deleting their metadata directories. This is a modified fork: report WebUI, inspection, synchronization, and other fork-specific issues to RipperHybrid rather than the original KernelSU maintainers.
