ExSDCard Write Access Enabler modifies legacy storage permissions so applications can access an external SD card through its raw /mnt/media_rw/ path.
Legacy External Storage Access
A systemless permission and storage-property adjustment originally designed for Android Nougat and Oreo.
Raw SD Path
Exposes the card through /mnt/media_rw/<card-id>/ for apps capable of using a direct filesystem path.
Permission Patch
Creates a systemless copy of platform.xml and adds legacy storage groups, including media_rw.
Storage Properties
Adjusts old FUSE, SDCardFS, and ESDFS properties used by the Android releases targeted by the project.
Compatibility
The upstream README requires Android 5.0 or newer, but explicitly states that the module is not recommended for Android 8.0 and later. Its scripts and permission model predate scoped storage and modern Android storage architecture.
Use it only for a legacy ROM where the exact external-card path is needed. It is not a general solution for scoped-storage restrictions on current Android releases.
Installation
- Back up important SD card data and confirm that the ROM is within the module's legacy compatibility range.
- Obtain the module ZIP from the upstream project or its linked XDA thread.
- Install the ZIP from Magisk and reboot.
- Test the card at
/mnt/media_rw/<card-id>/. Remove the module immediately if storage mounting or permissions regress.
