Android Image Kitchen (AIK) is osm0sis's toolkit for unpacking Android boot and recovery images, editing their kernel or ramdisk contents, and rebuilding the image while retaining the original format where possible. It is intended for developers and experienced modders, with packages for Android, Windows, and Linux.
A Practical Image Workspace
AIK separates an image into editable components and records the information required to assemble a replacement image.
Unpack Images
The unpack script extracts the kernel, ramdisk, compression details, command line, and other detected image metadata into a working directory.
Edit Components
Once unpacked, developers can adjust ramdisk files or replace supported components without manually reconstructing every image parameter.
Repack Consistently
The repack script reuses recorded properties such as ramdisk compression and supported image signatures to produce a new image for testing.
Typical Workflow
- Start with an image made for the exact device and software build. Keep an untouched copy outside the AIK directory.
- Run the platform's unpack script and confirm that it completes without an unsupported-format error.
- Make focused changes inside the extracted ramdisk or replace only the component you intend to test.
- Run the repack script, review its output, and use the newly generated image rather than overwriting the original backup.
