About this module

A1 Memory Management is a configurable root module for arm64 Android devices that manages background processes, releases non-essential memory, hibernates selected applications, and can alter Low Memory Killer Daemon behavior.

Configurable Process Management

Control which applications remain active, which child processes may be released, and how selected apps enter hibernation.

Background Rules

Defines survival, termination, and child-process release behavior for selected application packages.

App Hibernation

Places configured applications into a lower-activity state to reduce their CPU and memory use while they are not needed.

Terminal and JSON Control

Offers an amui terminal interface for basic toggles and a JSON configuration file for detailed HAMv2 parameters.

Memory-Control Model

Process Survival and Termination

Package rules determine which background processes should be retained and which may be terminated. Separate child-process rules allow auxiliary services to be released without treating every process from one application identically.

LMKD Intervention

An optional hook can prevent Android's Low Memory Killer Daemon from selecting protected background processes. This does not disable vendor-specific task killers, which may continue to enforce their own policies.

Automatic Memory Release

The HAMv2-based service can release memory categorized by its configuration as non-essential instead of relying only on Android's default pressure response.

Application Sleep

Configured applications can be placed into a sleep state to reduce their background CPU and memory activity. Apps that must continue audio playback or real-time work should be excluded when hibernation interrupts them.

Configuration

The default application list is stored at /sdcard/Android/HChai/HC_memory/名单列表.conf. Advanced HAMv2 behavior is configured through /data/adb/modules/Hc_memory/config/memory.json. The built-in configuration is intended to work for typical devices, while the JSON file exposes additional parameters for hardware or ROMs that do not behave correctly with those defaults.

Run amui in Termux to open the terminal interface, or execute /sdcard/Android/HChai/HC_memory/terminal.sh from a capable file manager. The interface provides simple feature toggles: navigate with the arrow keys and press Enter to save. Detailed parameters still belong in the JSON configuration rather than the toggle interface.

Rules that terminate subprocesses require careful package and process selection. An incorrect rule may interrupt application functions, notifications, or media playback.

Known Operational Limits

  • LMKD protection is selective: it addresses kills initiated by LMKD, not proprietary background managers added by device manufacturers.
  • Samsung behavior: the upstream documentation associates some cases of the device entering an abnormal framebuffer mode with the LMKD prevention hook. Disabling that hook is the documented workaround.
  • Media processes: if application hibernation pauses an audio process, add the affected process to the appropriate whitelist or disable hibernation for that application.

Compatibility and Project Status

The official project supports Android 8 through Android 14 on arm64-v8a, requires Magisk 20.4 or newer, and describes KernelSU as mostly compatible.

Archived project: The repository became read-only in January 2024. Review the documented limitations before using it on newer Android releases, and disable LMKD prevention if it causes background-mode problems on a Samsung device.
